Lesson 1 - The Inner Planets innerplanets
 
Introduction
Our solar system is made up of 8 major planets, asteroids, comets, meteoroids, dwarf planets, and moons. The eight major planets are divided into two groups, the inner planets and the outer planets. The planets in each group have some similar characteristics. In this lesson you will learn which planets are in each group. You will be able to compare and contrast the characteristics of the inner planets.
 
Standards

This lesson meets the State of Kansas Science standard 4, benchmark 3 - The student will identify and classify stars, planets and other Solar System components.
Indicator 3 - The student compares and contrasts the characteristics of stars, planets, moons, comets and asteroids.

Pre-assessment

Take the short pretest. Your answers will be sent to your teacher.

All work will be completed at school. You will have two class periods to complete lesson 1. This lesson is to be completed on your own. If you need help please ask your teacher.

Lesson Assignment

Your assignment for this lesson is a scavenger hunt. You may complete the scavenger hunt one of two ways. Please save your file as yourlastnamelessonone.doc. Save your file to your school folder.

Grading Grading Scale

This lesson is worth a total of 25 points.
BrainPOP score = 5 pts
Scavenger hunt = 10 pts
Post-assessment = 10 pts

A = 100 - 90%
B = 89 - 80%
C = 79 - 70%
D = 69 - 60%
F = 59% and below
