Lesson 2 - The Outer Planets outerplanets
 
Introduction

You have already learned about the group of planets called the inner planets. Now it is time for us to move further from the Sun and focus on the other four planets in our Solar System. In this lesson you will learn which planets form the group called the outer planets. You will be able to compare and contrast the characteristics of these planets.

 
Standards
This lesson meets the State of Kansas Science standard 4, benchmark 3 - The student will identify and classify stars, planets and other Solar System components.
Indicator 3 - The student compares and contrasts the characteristics of stars, planets, moons, comets and asteroids.

Lesson Policies
All work will be completed at school. You will have two class periods to complete lesson 2. This lesson is to be completed on your own. If you need help please ask Miss Schaper.
Example (Media)
Please print the organizer before watching this video. Remember that solar system information becomes outdated quickly. The information on number of moons is incorrect in this video. Pluto is also no longer considered a planet.
Lesson Assignment
Read the article about the outer planets. Visit our Moodle site and answer the outer planets questions.

Use the resources page to find the information for your practice activity. You may use other resources if you wish. Remember to check the reliability of your source.
Practice Activity
For this practice activity you need to choose two planets to compare. One must be an outer planet. Complete the venn diagram using the links on the resource page or the notes you have taken. You must have at least five characteristics listed in each section.
Assessment
Take the short posttest on Quizstar. Your log in information is the same as you used on the pretest.

This lesson is worth a total of 15 points.

A = 100 - 90%

C = 79 - 70%
